Overlander
- Bereits weit vor dem 17. Jahrhundert im Flämischen das Gegenteil von Niederländer, also `Deutscher´ 1) und Overland = Germania superior.
- Daraus entstand der Familienname Overlander als Herkunftsbezeichnung im Niederländischen.
- In einigen Gegenden ist Overlander derjenige, der am gegenüberliegenden Ufer des Flusses wohnt.
- Im Flämischen und Französischen (overlandre) kleinere Schiffe, die auf Rhein und Maas verkehren konnten 2).
- »An overlander is one who makes long expeditions from one colony to another with stock, either of the purpose of finding new pasture land on which to establish himself, or to take advantage of a favourable market« im Unterschied zum bushranger (Kapitel IV, S. 32 ff): »bushrangers are out« 4)
